La Mensa, Hobart: a restaurant website that takes orders
La Mensa is an Italian restaurant on Salamanca Place in Hobart, Tasmania. They needed more than a menu online: a website that takes table bookings, online orders and gift card sales, and that the restaurant's own staff can keep up to date.
I rebuilt it from scratch on Laravel 12. The public site handles reservations, online orders, gift cards and event enquiries. The staff run the whole site from a custom admin panel, from menu prices to SEO titles.
What the public site does
Online ordering
Menu-driven checkout with Stripe payment, webhook confirmation and a printable invoice for every order.
Table reservations
Booking form with date and time rules, including Christmas Day hours, and an admin queue to confirm, merge or restore requests.
Gift cards
Buy a gift card online with Stripe and check its balance on the site.
Events & set menus
Event and party enquiries, share-style set menus for groups, and seasonal menus such as the Christmas lunch.
Blog & SEO pages
A blog, FAQ, SEO landing pages editable from the admin, sitemap.xml, llms.txt and structured data.
Legacy redirects
Every URL from the old site 301s to its new page, so search rankings and old links survived the rebuild.
The admin behind it
This is custom-built, not WordPress with plugins. The dashboard opens on what needs attention now: bookings waiting for confirmation, tonight's covers and unanswered enquiries.

The backends behind my apps
Many of the apps in my portfolio run on web systems I built alongside them: Laravel REST APIs, databases and the web admin panels their owners use to manage users, content and orders. A custom API with a web admin panel is part of my standard app package on the pricing page.
This website
abinantony.io is a Laravel site I built and run: a custom CMS for every page, a privacy-respecting analytics system with its own GeoIP lookup, generated sitemaps and structured data, and Lighthouse scores of 99–100 for mobile performance and 100 for accessibility, best practices and SEO. Hiring a web developer in Kerala: FAQs
Are you a web developer or a mobile app developer?
Both, and the two overlap more than people expect. Most of the mobile apps I ship run on a Laravel API and a web admin panel that I build alongside the app. I also build websites and web apps on their own, like the La Mensa restaurant site in Hobart: a public site, online ordering and a full admin, with no app involved.
What does a website or web app cost?
It depends on what the site has to do. A brochure site with a CMS is a small project. A site that takes bookings, payments or orders and has an admin behind it is a larger one. I quote a fixed price after a free scoping call, not an hourly estimate that can grow. For reference, a custom Laravel API with a web admin panel is part of the Standard App tier on my pricing page.
Can you take over or rebuild my existing website?
Yes. La Mensa was a rebuild: the old site's URLs, including its blog, redirect permanently to the new pages so search rankings and old links carry over. Before rebuilding anything I crawl the existing site, so nothing that currently gets traffic is lost.
Will I be able to update the website myself?
Yes. Every site I build has an admin where you edit the content that changes: menus, prices, pages, blog posts, FAQs, gallery images, opening hours and SEO titles. You should not need a developer to change a price.
Do you build SEO into the site?
Yes, from the start: server-rendered pages, clean URLs, a generated sitemap.xml, schema.org structured data, per-page titles and descriptions that you can edit in the admin, and fast pages. This site, abinantony.io, scores 99–100 for mobile performance in Lighthouse, and you can run that test yourself.
Can the website take payments?
Yes. La Mensa takes online orders and gift card purchases through Stripe Checkout, confirms payment through Stripe webhooks rather than trusting the browser, and generates invoices. For Indian businesses I use Razorpay the same way.
Do you work with clients outside Kerala?
Most of my clients are outside Kerala. La Mensa is in Hobart, Australia, and the working hours overlap well: an Indian morning is an Australian afternoon. I also work with clients in the UK, the Gulf and across India, over WhatsApp, email and video calls.
Who owns the code and hosting?
You do. The source code, domain, hosting account and every third-party account (Stripe, Google, email) are in your name. I can host and maintain the site for you, but you are never locked in.
